Les Aventures Eoliennes

Filicudi’s ancient name, Phoenicusa, has its origin from the ferns that once grew all over the island. It has an area of 9.5 sq km and culminates at 775m above sea level. The three small townships, Val di Chiesa, where stands the church of St-Stephan, Pecorini and Porto have a total population of 301 inhabitants.
The island, once a conic volcano now extinct, extends all the way to the small neck of land of Capo Graziano. Most of the island is mountainous and the coasts are ragged with high cliffs overlooking the sea. The landscape is of an utmost beauty.
On this island, one can visit some very interesting caves like those of the Marcatore and of the Perciato and the most renowned cave of Bue Marino in which one must go in through a huge entrance. This enchanting place will astound you with the way light and water come together in harmony and the peace that reigns in this cave will leave nobody indifferent. The Capo Graziano peninsula, whose natural beauty is undeniable, also offers its visitors interesting relics of a long lost civilization. The ruins of an ancient village dating back to the Bronze era have been uncovered.
The reefs of Mitra, Notaro, Montenossari are particularly amazing. The Cana reef is just as spectacular as it rises 71 meters above a sea bursting with underwater fauna and flora.
