Les Aventures Eoliennes

Located north of the archipelago, it is one of the most picturesque islands. With an area of 12 sq km and 407 inhabitants, it is the most famous island because of the volcano that elevates above it. Once called Strongyle (topp) because of its isosceles triangle shape, the entire island is a volcano with its summit at 926 meters and active crater a little further north. The Stromboli, along with the Etna, is one of the rare volcanoes still active in Europe. It is perhaps the only one in the world who, for thousands of years, has never stopped roaring and expelling scorching lava day after day, night after night.
The most extraordinary excursion at sea of your trip to the Aeolians will enable you to witness the striking spectacle the Stromboli has to offer. The continuous and constant volcanic activity consists of smokes, growls and explosions followed by spectacular ejections of magma and slag that, from time to time, join along the Sciara del fuoco (coming down of lava into the sea). The lava then offers an imposing sight with its flows of fire rolling down to the sea.One can also enjoy the sight from closer, which is even more impressing, by walking up to the crater on top of the island (with the help of a qualified guide). There are three villages on this island: S. Vincenzo, S. Bartolo and Ginostra. In S.Vincenzo, we can visit an information center administered by the National Group of Volcano logy.
