Itinerary

Day 1: Montreal – Palermo
Departure from Montreal airport on regular flights to Palermo airport with correspondences. Meals on board.

Day 2:Palermo - Castellamare del Golfo
Arrival at Palermo’s airport in the late morning and welcomed by our local guide at the arrival terminal. Transfer by coach to the hotel in the town of Castellamare del Golfo. Free time before information meeting with our local guide in the late afternoon. Supper at the hotel. (S)

Day 3: Castellamare del Golfo - Palermo – Monreale - Castellamare del Golfo
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the panoramic and guided visit of Palermo; (Palace of the Norman, Duomo, Palatine chapel … ). Departure for the Norman city of Monreale. Free time for lunch on the road. Stop at Monreale’s “Belvedere” where we have a superb view of the whole Valley of the Conca d’Oro. Guided visit of the Cathedral of the Benedictines, it is one of the most important Norman cathedral of Sicily. Return to the hotel of Cefalu'. Supper at the hotel. (B, S)

Day 4: Castellamare del Golfo - Erice – Marsala - Agrigento
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the guided visit of the Castle of “Balio” in the medieval city of Erice. Tasting of typical pastries. Free time for dinner in the old city of Erice. Visit of the Salt Mills of Ettores and Infersa in Marsala. Continuation for a visit and a tasting at a winery in Marsala. In the late afternoon transfer to the hotel of Agrigento, “the most beautiful city of the mortals". Supper at the hotel. Night excursion around the illuminated Valley of Temples. (B, 2 T, S)

Day 5: Agrigento - Valley of Temples - Cefalu (or surroundings)
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by coach for the guided visit of the famous Valley of Temples of Agrigento. Once named Akragas at the time of its foundation during the VI century BC, this former city regroups ten temples. Departure for lunch at a farm. In the afternoon a recognition walk in the city of Cefalu', charming Norman city, where we will be lodging for the next two nights. Tasting in a local Enotecca. Transfer to the hotel and supper. Day 6: Cefalu - S.Stefano di Camastra – Castell’Umberto - Port of Milazzo - Lipari
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the visit of S.Stefano di Camastra that is specialized in the artisan ceramics. Departure for Catell’Umberto for a visit and a lunch-tasting of typical products. Departure for the port of Millazzo for the transfer to the port of Lipari by hydrofoil. Transfer to the hotel of Lipari. Supper in a local restaurant. (B, L, S)

Day 7: Lipari
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the panoramic and guided visit of Lipari Island and its four villages (Canneto, Acquacalda, Quattropani, Pianoconte) with strategic stops at Quattrocchi and Porticello (enormous mountain of pumice that immerses itself into the sea). Visit of Chiesa Vecchia, typical Aeolian church, and its promontory. In the afternoon, departure for a reconnaissance walk of Lipari downtown and a guided visit of the Aeolian archeological museum, where we find the Castle, home of the Greek acropolis and archeological excavation that dates back to the Bronze Age (1700 B.C.).
Departure for supper and tasting in a local agritourism. (B, T, S)

Day 8: Lipari – Panarea - Stromboli - Lipari
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Panarea Island; visit of the inner land: visit of the fascinating village of San Pietro, scenic walk to the prehistoric village of Punta Milazzese with a stop at the marvellous golden beach. Free time for lunch along the way. In the afternoon departure for Stromboli island: visit of the Information Centre of the National Group of Volcano logy and the village of San Vincenzo. Return aboard the M/n PALOMA for supper. Sunset cruise to Strombolicchio and a stop under the “Sciara del Fuoco”; the flow of lava into the sea, a path that has been formed by the eruption material since the millennia. View of the volcanic explosions of Stromboli three active craters (eruption approx. every 12 minutes). Return to Lipari Island. (B, S)

Day 9: Lipari - Salina - Lipari
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the tour of Lipari and Salina Islands. A stop at Porticello. A visit of the town of Rinella and a tasting of local products. Departure for Punta Perciato, where we will see a prehistorical marketplace, also a beautiful place for a swim and for snorkelling. Departure for the port of S.Marina Salina for the visit of this typical fisherman village. Free time for lunch at S. Marina Salina. Continuation of the tour aroud Lipari island. Return to Lipari. Free supper and evening. (B, T))

Day 10: Lipari – Vulcano - Lipari
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Vulcano island. Arrival at the port of Levante, disembark on this island for the visit of a natural and unique environment. Several activities are offered on this mystic island such as a non guided walk to the crater, natural mud bath and visit of this site (faraglione della fabbrica), natural thermal bath in the sea, shopping and sunbathing at the popular black sand beach of Ponente, thalasso therapy center ($)... Free time for lunch at this island. In the afternoon return to Lipari Island. Free supper and evening. (B)

Day 11: Lipari - Zafferana Etnéa – Etna - Catania (Acitrezza)
Breakfast at the hotel. . Transfer from the port of Lipari for the port of Milazzo by hydrofoil. Departure by coach for Zafferana Etnea; tasting and visit of a local honey producer followed by a visit of a local volcanic stone sculptor. Departure for the visit of Mount Etna (elev. 2000m.), the largest and most active volcano in Europe. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon transfer at the hotel of Acitrezza. Reconnaissance visit of the village of Acitrezza. Supper at the hotel. (B, T, S)

Day 12: Acitrezza - Giardini Naxos - Castelmola - Taormina - Acitrezza
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by coach for a guided visit of Giardini Naxos, Castelmola and Taormina, former capital of Sicily; Old Greek, Arabic, and Roman cities overhanging the Ionian sea. A visit of the Greek-Roman Theater of Taormina, churches and the charming streets of these cities. Free time for lunch in one of these romantic cities. In the late afertnoon, departure for Acitrezza’s hotel for supper. (B, S)

Day 13: Acitrezza – Catania - Caltagirone - Piazza Armerina - Acitrezza
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by coach for a guided visit of the old city of Catania and its very animate popular market. Departure for the visit of Caltagirone: the “Duomo” and the church of “S. Maria del Monte”. Departure for Piazza Armerina. Free time for lunch on the road. Guided visit of the Roman Villa of the Casale; one of the most remarkable archaeological testimonies of Sicily during the imperial Roman era. Return to the Acitrezza’s hotel. Supper in a local restaurant specialized in fresh fish. (B, S)

Day 14: Acitrezza – Siracusa - Noto - Acitrezza
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by coach for the province of Syracuse. Guided visit of the archaeological site “Neapolis” of Syracuse dating back to the VIII century B.C.; known as the most important one of the Mediterranean (Temple of Apollon, Fountana Aréthuse). Free time for lunch on the Ortigy Island; historic center where the Mediterranean civilization has been living for three thousand years. Departure for a guided visit of Noto. Return to the Acitrezza’s hotel for supper. (B, S)

Day 15: Acitrezza – Catania airport - Montreal airport
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer by coach to Catania’s airport. Departure on regular flights to Montreal airport, with correspondences. Meals on board. (B)
